About Moonflower

Greetings and Salutations! Welcome to Moonflower, home of excellent hand-made products for the "in crowd." Let me introduce myself, I am the proprietor of Moonflower, Miss Stephanie Langenfeld, a crafts master and high quality enthusiast. I currently reside in pastoral Eugene, Oregon, and enjoy this land of plenty.

My interest in hand crafted soap and toiletries is an outgrowth of my love of pampering, appreciation of natural health care, enjoyment of making things from scratch, and my desire to express my plethora of creative impulses. Besides all that, hand made soap is a small wonder and those who give it a try can never go back to those awful commercial concoctions without heavy sedation.

Looking back, I believe many points of interest and experience led up to my making soaps and other stylish hand made products. My green thumb and curiosity about plant identification from an early age grew into a working knowledge of herbs and essential oils. My time spent working in health foods and sampling a wide variety of natural products grew into my desire to make my own, improved products for myself and friends. My early experience in art, design and silk screening led to my renewed interest in design during college. Finally, a fortuitous second job all those years ago allowed me to invest what I would need to begin soap production on a small retail scale.

Every batch of natural hand crafted soap that I make is a treat for me. I choose the oils, butters, herbs, exfoliants and a blend of essential oils that combine to create a harmonious whole in the final product. I like to utilize what is available to me locally and include organic Hood River honey from my friend Rocky the bee man, organic goats milk from my friends in Estacada, as well as locally grown Eugene lavender and herbs. I use organic products whenever possible, from free range organic eggs to organic oats and cosmetic clays. Removing a batch of soap from the mold is like unwrapping a present.

I use the old fashioned cold process method of soap making for all my batches. The batches are made small so that quality remains high. Each batch gets all my time, care and attention and each batch is a little different than the last. I hand stamp all bars with a stamp I think best suites the scent and texture, making the soaps not only an olfactory and sensual experience, but decorative as well. I cure my bars in a drying room for a minimum of three weeks before wrapping. They get lots of tender loving care before I send them to my customers or take them to market.

While striving to keep my products as natural as possible I have only ever used high quality mineral and herbal colors and fragrance oils that are approved for use in cosmetics. My natural hand crafted soaps are all vegetarian with the exception of a bar or two that contains lanolin, beeswax, eggs and Goat Milk. I believe in experimentation as a must, but in kindness as a rule. We want only the best for our little bods and the bods of our little friends too.

Finally, Moonflower is about fun. I have the best time creating new blends, thinking about how they will feel on your skin, what herb would best give them color and what scent combination might be most pleasing while adding to the beneficial properties Im seeking. But perhaps most fun is giving he soaps a name and finding a fitting quote for the side of the label. The satisfaction I receive when I hear how much someone enjoys what I've created isn't half bad either.
